WELCOME NEW RN STUDENTS TO ROLE TRANSITION
We are already preparing for our new students to begin Role Transition 11/1/11. They are an enthusiastic group and drop by the RN office frequently. They have lots of questions and have begun the process of turning in needed documents. We look forward to having them in class and wish them well until 11/1/11.

STUDENTS:
When faced with overwhelming problems, we often escape by focusing on minor ones.
Just Remember:
Vision is the world's most desperate need. There are no hopeless situations, only people who think hopelessly.

"Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail" - Ralph Waldo Emerson
Today is graduation day. Students, may you use this quote and the learning that you have achieved throughout your time here at Platt and be a huge success. You are now on your way to your careers. You control the path that you may take or decide to make your own path. We are proud of your accomplishments. Now go out and conquer the world!!

"To create more positive results in your life, replace 'if only' with 'next time'." - Author unknown
This has officially become the motto for the Tulsa Platt RN Department. We cannot go back, only forward. We cannot undo what has been done. We cannot control anyone but our own self. So we might as well look to the future and all the 'next times' we have in store.

Too much thinking!
I don't know about any of the rest of the Nursing Coordinators but I am having quite a time mastering this blogging. Guess that is why we have so few blogs on the Nursing Program blog site. Come on Sisters, learn how to master this and help me. Boy do I need help!
Mittens for Mercy
Kristen Andrews had a birthday recently and mentioned that she really needed some mittens to wear while in her office becuse it was so cold. Well, leave it to the RN Department. We gifted her a pair of mittens that not only warm her hands but can unveil her fingers for typing. Kristen is a happy camper and we wish her a very Happy Birthday!!!

"Nursing is an art: and it is to be made an art, it requires an exclusive devotion as hard a preparation, as any painter's or sculptor's work; for what is the having to do with dead canvas or dead marble, compared with having to do with the living body, the temple of God's spirit? It is one of the FineArts: I had almost said, the finest of Fine Arts." - Florence Nightingale
There is so much preparation to being a nurse. We, in the RN Department, do not take our jobs lightly. We know that we are preparing the future of the nursing field. We are very proud of the staff in our department, but more so, we are proud of our students and the effort that they are making. We are looking forward to our next round of core nursing course students starting in November.
Inspirations
"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit." - Aristotle
This is the inspirational quote that the RN department has recently given to our students. This is our goal, to encourage our students to strive for excellence not only in their academic life but also in their professional and personal lives. The RN department has recently started giving "smartie" bags prior to big tests with an inspirational quote. These bags are filled with candy (including "smarties") and the chosen quote to encourage our students. This will continue to occur through all our courses prior to a "big test". Many thanks go to Valerie Pearce and Kristen Andrews for helping us stuff bags. We are looking forward to the next Advanced Med-Surg class starting on October 11, 2011. There will be many skills and additional information available to the students. Crystal Jensen and Jennifer Minor, RN instructors will be teaching skills labs on Mondays to our students. Thanks to the PN department for the use of the lab on Mondays. We are looking forward to a great and successful quarter.

Practical Nursing PM Capping and Pinning Ceremony
August 20, 2011 was a very special day for the six graduates of the PM Practical Nursing Program at the Platt College Oklahoma City Central Campus. These amazing, determined women received their nursing cap, school pin, and candle as a symbol of their transition into the profession of nursing. More than 100 family & friends and 13 faculty & staff enjoyed the solemn, joyful, and at times humerous ceremony as instructors and graduates shared their thoughts and memories of the 19 month journey that was being completed. The graduates will take the NCLEX licensing exam in the next few weeks and complete the process of becoming a licensed practical nurse. These new nurses will have the opportunity to make an enormous, positive difference in the lives of the people under their care. We are so proud of each of these graduates. Our sincere best wishes for every blessing in their new career go with each one of them.
